Memduh Ünlütürk (1913 – 7 April 1991) was a Turkish general. He was involved with a secret group called the Counter-Guerrilla. This group worked against certain political ideas in Turkey. He was also linked to special questionings after a big change in government in 1971.
Sadly, Memduh Ünlütürk was killed at his home in Istanbul. A group called Dev Sol was responsible. Some people believe he was killed to keep important secrets hidden. This was about a hidden system in Turkey often called the "deep state." The group Dev Sol has been linked to another organization known as Ergenekon.
General Ünlütürk and Ergenekon
The first person to speak publicly about the Ergenekon organization was a retired naval officer named Erol Mütercimler. He talked about it in 1997.
What is Ergenekon?
Mütercimler said he learned about Ergenekon from General Memduh Ünlütürk himself. General Ünlütürk told him that Ergenekon was started with help from the CIA and the Pentagon. These are important organizations in the United States.
Investigations and Connections
Later, during an investigation into Ergenekon, Erol Mütercimler was questioned. He was released after answering questions. This shows the important connection Memduh Ünlütürk had to the history of this secret organization.
