Memorial Park is a special place in Motueka, Tasman, New Zealand. It is mainly known as a cricket ground, which is a field where cricket games are played.

This park is important to the local community. It has been a site for sports and gatherings for many years.

Who Owns Memorial Park?

Memorial Park is owned by two groups working together. One owner is the Tasman District Council. This is the local government for the Tasman area.

The other owner is Wakatū Incorporation. This is a company that represents about 4,000 people. These people are descendants of the original Te Tau Ihu Māori people from this area. They have a long history and connection to the land.

Cricket History at the Park

Memorial Park has a history of hosting cricket matches. The very first recorded game there happened in January 1950. In that match, the Nelson team played against the Marlborough team. This was part of the 1950/51 Hawke Cup competition.

Later, in 1987, the park hosted a bigger game. This was a "List A" cricket match. It was part of the 1987/88 Shell Cup. In this game, the Central Districts played against the Otago. Central Districts won the match by 52 runs.

Since that time, major cricket games haven't been played at Memorial Park. However, it remains a significant local landmark.
