History of Meraux
In 2005, Meraux faced a big challenge. Hurricane Katrina caused a lot of damage. Strong winds and a huge storm surge (a rise in sea level during a storm) hit the area. This storm surge broke the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet Canal (MRGO) levee, which is a protective wall. The damage was very severe.

Meraux is located in southeastern Louisiana. Its exact coordinates are 29°55′39″N 89°55′7″W / 29.92750°N 89.91861°W.
