This means it is a place where many people live, but it is not officially a city or town. In 2020, about 6,804 people called Meraux home. It is part of the larger New Orleans metropolitan area.

History of Meraux
In 2005, Meraux faced a big challenge. Hurricane Katrina caused a lot of damage. Strong winds and a huge storm surge (a rise in sea level during a storm) hit the area. This storm surge broke the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet Canal (MRGO) levee, which is a protective wall. The damage was very severe.

Meraux is located in southeastern Louisiana. Its exact coordinates are 29°55′39″N 89°55′7″W / 29.92750°N 89.91861°W.
