Successor | Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W202) |
The Mercedes-Benz W201 is a special car made by the German company Mercedes-Benz. It was first introduced in 1982. Many people called it the "Baby Benz" because it was smaller than other Mercedes cars at the time. This car was very popular and was made until 1993. After that, it was replaced by the C-Class car. Over 1.8 million of these cars were built!
Different Models and Engines
The Mercedes-Benz W201 came in many different versions. These versions had different engines, which are like the car's power source. Some ran on petrol (gasoline), and others ran on diesel.
Petrol Models
The petrol models of the W201 were known for being powerful and smooth. They included:
- 190: This was the basic model, usually with a 4-cylinder engine.
- 190 E: The "E" stands for "Einspritzung," which means "fuel injection." These models had more advanced engines. They came in different sizes like 1.8, 2.0, and 2.3 liters.
- 190 E 2.3-16 and 190 E 2.5-16: These were high-performance versions. They had special 16-valve engines, which made them much sportier.
- 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II: This was a very rare and powerful version. It was built for racing and had a strong 4-cylinder engine.
- 190 E 2.6: This model had a larger, smoother 6-cylinder engine.
- 190 E 3.2 AMG: This was a super powerful version tuned by AMG, a company that makes Mercedes cars even faster. It had a big 6-cylinder engine.
Diesel Models
The diesel models were known for being very fuel-efficient and reliable. They included:
- 190 D: This was the standard diesel model, often with a 4-cylinder engine.
- 190 D 2.2 and 190 D 2.5: These had slightly larger 4-cylinder or 5-cylinder diesel engines.
- 190 D 2.5 Turbo: This was a turbocharged diesel model. The turbocharger made the engine much more powerful, giving it a good boost of speed.
