Gwilym Meredith Edwards (born June 10, 1917 – died February 8, 1999) was a Welsh actor and writer. He was known for playing many different types of characters in films and TV shows.
Meredith Edwards was born in a place called Rhosllannerchrugog in Wales. His father worked in a coal mine. Meredith went to Ruabon Boys' Grammar School. He started acting in 1938. First, he worked with the Welsh National Theatre Company, and then at the Liverpool Playhouse.

Meredith Edwards During World War II
During the Second World War, Meredith Edwards was a Christian conscientious objector. This means he believed it was wrong to fight in the war because of his religious beliefs. Instead of fighting, he served in the Non-Combatant Corps, which helped with things that didn't involve fighting. Later, he worked for the National Fire Service in Liverpool and London, helping to put out fires.

Meredith Edwards was proud of his Welsh heritage. He was a Welsh nationalist, meaning he strongly supported Wales and its culture. He also spoke the Welsh language. In 1966, he even ran for a political position in the general election as a candidate for Plaid Cymru, a Welsh political party.
In 1997, he received an honorary degree from the University of Wales. He was also a member of the Gorsedd of Bards, a group that celebrates Welsh culture and poetry.
Family Life
Meredith Edwards married Daisy Clark in 1942. They had two sons and one daughter. His son, Ioan Meredith, also became an actor, and his grandsons, Ifan Meredith and Rhys Meredith, followed in the family's acting footsteps too!
