Meri von KleinSmid, born in 1974, is an American musician, artist, and composer. This means she creates music, art, and writes musical pieces. She has explored many different kinds of music throughout her life.

Discovering Music: Meri's Journey

Meri von KleinSmid grew up in Los Angeles, California. From a young age, she loved music. She learned to play several instruments, including the piano, violin, and flute. She also sang in choirs.

Later, Meri went to college to study music even more deeply. She attended the University of Washington and Columbia College Chicago. There, she learned about the history of music and ethnomusicology. Ethnomusicology is the study of music from different cultures around the world.

Meri lived for a while in Cambridge, England. After that, she moved to the Seattle and Vancouver areas in North America. She has been part of various music groups. These include the experimental musical collective SoniCabal and the Chinese Music Society of North America. An experimental musical collective creates new and unusual sounds.

One of the CDs featuring her work, called 60X60, won an award. It received recognition at the Just Plain Folks Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. This shows her music was well-received.
