Merinos is a small village located in the southern part of the Paysandú Department in western Uruguay. It is a quiet community with a rich history and a close-knit population.
Where is Merinos Located?
Merinos is found along Route 90, an important road in the region. It is about 33 kilometers (20 miles) east of the town of Guichón. The village is also about 118 kilometers (73 miles) east of Paysandú, which is the capital city of the department.
A railroad track also runs through Merinos. This track connects Paysandú with another town called Paso de los Toros. This means the village is a stop along an important transportation route.

Merinos was officially recognized as a "Pueblo," which means a village, on November 19, 1991. This happened when a special law, called Ley Nº 16.232, was passed. This official status helped the community grow and develop over the years.
