Paso de los Toros (which means Bulls' Pass) is a city in the Tacuarembó Department of Uruguay. It's a special place with a rich history and a unique connection to a famous soft drink.

History of Paso de los Toros
The city's story began with the Midland Uruguay Railway. This railway started running in 1889. It connected Paso de los Toros with Salto.
On July 17, 1903, the small group of houses here was officially named "Santa Isabel." It was called a "Pueblo," which means a village. This village became important for the local court system.
Later, on November 27, 1929, the village got a new name: "Paso de los Toros." Its status was also upgraded to "Villa," meaning a town. This change happened because of a special law, Ley Nº 8.523.
Finally, on July 1, 1953, Paso de los Toros became a "Ciudad," or a city. This was made official by another law, Ley Nº 11.952.

In 2011, about 12,985 people lived in Paso de los Toros. This makes it the second-largest city in the Tacuarembó Department. The capital city, Tacuarembó, is the largest.

Geography and Location
Paso de los Toros is located on the northern side of the Río Negro river. It sits right on Route 5, which is an important road.
The city is about 140 kilometers (87 miles) south-southwest of Tacuarembó. Tacuarembó is the capital city of the department. Paso de los Toros is also about 66 kilometers (41 miles) north of Durazno, which is the capital of the Durazno Department.
