Merritt James Norvell Jr. (born February 12, 1941 – died October 19, 2020) was an important person in college sports. He worked as an athletic director at Michigan State University. This job means he was in charge of all the sports teams and programs at the university. He held this role from 1995 to 1998.

Early Life and Sports Career

Merritt Norvell grew up in Jacksonville, Illinois. He went to Jacksonville High School. There, he was a star athlete in four different sports. This shows he was very talented and active.

After high school, he went to the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He played college football for the Wisconsin Badgers team. His position was a halfback. This player usually runs with the ball.

Norvell was part of a special team in 1962. This team played in a very famous game called the 1963 Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl is one of the oldest and most important college football games in the United States.

Merritt Norvell passed away on October 19, 2020. He died in Lansing, Michigan.
