Trains have played a big part in Mertztown's history. The Reading Railroad used to run through the area. This railway is now part of the Norfolk Southern company and is still used a lot today. Another train line, the Catasauqua and Fogelsville Railroad, also passed through parts of Mertztown, but those tracks were later taken away.

Interesting Places Near Mertztown
One notable place near Mertztown was the Dorney Road Landfill. This landfill was added to a special list by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1984 because it needed to be cleaned up. After a lot of work, it was removed from the list in 2018, meaning it was no longer a major environmental concern.
