Messex, Colorado, is a small, quiet place in Washington County, Colorado. It's known as a "virtual ghost town" because very few people live there now. In 2010, only two people were counted as living in Messex. However, in the past, hundreds of people called it home.

History of Messex

Messex was first settled in the 1860s. Back then, it was a lively "Wild West" town. Over time, it changed quite a bit.

Early Settlement and Growth

Many years ago, Messex became a place where German immigrants came to live. They worked hard growing sugar beets, which are used to make sugar. This farming helped the town grow for a while.

Population Changes Over Time

The number of people living in Messex has changed a lot. In the 1990s, about a dozen people lived there. But by 2010, the population had dropped to just two people. This is why it's called a "virtual ghost town."

How Messex Got Its Name

The community of Messex was named after a man named Joe Messex. He was an important official who worked for the railroad.
