Metacrias is a special group of moths. They belong to a family called Erebidae. All Metacrias moths live only in New Zealand. This means they are endemic to New Zealand, found nowhere else in the world!
Discovering Metacrias Moths
The Metacrias group of moths was first described by a scientist named Edward Meyrick. He wrote about them in a science paper in 1887. This paper was published in a journal called Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales.
