Metropolis (Auckland building) facts for kids
Metropolis is a very tall building, called a skyscraper, in Auckland, New Zealand. It has 39 floors and is used for both homes (apartments) and a hotel. It was built in 1999 by a company called Krukziener Properties. People thought it looked great and was built very well. It cost a lot of money to construct. The Metropolis is known as one of Auckland's most special apartment buildings. In 2019, it was the tallest building in New Zealand used for homes. Another building nearby, called the Pacifica, will soon be even taller.

Building Details
The Metropolis building was built using strong, reinforced concrete. Its construction started in 1997 and finished in 1999. For one year, it was the tallest building in New Zealand. Then, the Vero Centre became taller.
The building has 368 apartments where people live. It also has 55 hotel rooms for visitors. To help people move up and down, there are 7 elevators inside. These elevators were made by a company called Schindler Group. The building was designed by architects from Peddle Thorp Architects.
A Famous Climb
On December 11, 2013, a famous climber named Alain Robert climbed the outside of the Metropolis building. He is known for climbing tall buildings without safety ropes. This climb was part of a special event to promote the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
