The Vero Centre is a tall office building in Auckland, New Zealand. It was finished in the year 2000. When it was built, it became the tallest building in New Zealand. It took this title from another building called The Metropolis.
The building has 38 floors. Inside, you can find a health club and a gym. There are also shops on the first five levels. The other 32 levels are used for offices. The Vero Centre was the tallest office building in New Zealand until June 2019. That's when the Commercial Bay PwC Tower was completed. The Vero Centre is also famous for its special 'halo' shape at the top.

What Makes the Vero Centre Special?
The Vero Centre stands out because it is much taller than other buildings nearby. Even so, many people think it helped improve the eastern part of Auckland's city center. Before the Vero Centre was built, this area had empty spaces and old, low buildings. These included old warehouses and places for students to live.
How the Building Was Designed
The people who built the Vero Centre used special rules from the city's plan. These rules let them build a bigger building. In return, they had to add things that would help the public. This included showing artworks and creating a public space for people to enjoy.
Some people have wondered if these public benefits were truly helpful. Others have also pointed out that it's hard to walk through the building to get from one street to another.
Awards and Art at the Vero Centre
The Vero Centre has won several awards for being good for the environment. It uses less energy than many other buildings in New Zealand. For example, it won the RICS International Award for Building Efficiency in 2001. It also received the EnergyWise Award in 2004. Experts have figured out that it uses about 10% less energy than an average office building in New Zealand.
Inside the building, you can see different artworks. One famous piece is called Coral. It was made by a New Zealand artist named Peter Roche.
