Mi destino (which means "My Destiny" in English) is the fifteenth music album from the famous Mexican pop singer and actress Lucero. It was released on July 21, 2000.
This album was special because it was the second time Lucero helped write her own songs. She wrote the Spanish words for the first song, "Mi Destino Eres Tú" (My Destiny Is You). This song became a number one hit in Mexico. It was also the main song for a TV show (called a telenovela) with the same name, where Lucero was the star. She also helped write some words for the song "Arde" (Burn). Plus, she wrote the Spanish version of "Vamos a Cantar" (Everything is Right...), which was the official song for the 2000 Mexican Teletón, a big charity event.
Mi destino was also the first time that more than two music producers worked on one of Lucero's albums. The album even included two songs sung completely in English. The album's notes said these songs had a "New York English pronunciation."

Making the Album
Many talented people helped create Mi destino.
Working with Producers
Rafael Pérez-Botija, a well-known producer, worked with Lucero again. He wrote and produced five songs on the album. Ric Wake produced four songs: "Tuya" (Yours), "Mi Destino Eres Tú," "Nadie Me Quiere Como Tú," and "Vamos a Cantar."
Jean B. Smit produced the song "Llegarás" (You'll Come). This song was originally planned to be the first single. This was because the TV show Lucero was filming was first going to be called "Llegarás." But when the TV show's name changed to "Mi Destino Eres Tú," that song became the first single instead.
The songs "No Puedo Más" (Can't Take it Anymore) in both English and Spanish versions were produced by Jimmy Greco and Ray Contreras. Ricardo "Eddy" Martínez produced the song "Arde."
Popular Songs and Sales
Besides "Mi Destino Eres Tú," other songs like "Nadie Me Quiere Como Tú," "No Puedo Más," and "Cada Latido" (Each Heartbeat) were also released as singles. This album was Lucero's first studio album with her new record company, Sony. It sold 150,000 copies in Mexico, earning a "gold" sales award.
Challenges with Sony
Sony, Lucero's record label, had big plans for Mi destino. They wanted to make Lucero famous all over the world.
High Hopes and Unexpected Issues
Sony put a lot of effort into making this album high-quality. They hoped it would be a huge success. However, they were unsure how well it would do after some changes at the record company.
A music tour was planned for early 2001 to promote the album. But the tour didn't happen because Lucero became pregnant with her first child. After this, Sony seemed to lose interest in promoting the album internationally. Even though the album sold 150,000 copies and went gold, Sony had expected it to sell much more.
