Club Career
Early Years in Poland
Michał Żyro started his football journey as a kid, playing for a youth team called KS Piaseczno for five years. When he was 13, his talent was noticed by Legia Warsaw, one of the biggest clubs in Poland. He joined their youth academy to improve his skills.
At just 17 years old, Żyro was promoted to Legia Warsaw's senior team. He played for the first team for six years, appearing in 96 matches and scoring 13 goals. During his time there, he helped the team win many trophies.
Moving to England
On December 24, 2015, Żyro signed a contract to play for the English club Wolverhampton Wanderers, often called "Wolves." He officially joined the team on January 2, 2016.
He made his first appearance for Wolves on January 9, 2016, in an FA Cup match. Just a few days later, on January 12, he scored his first two goals for the club in a 3–2 victory against Fulham. He quickly scored another goal in a later match against Cardiff City.
A Major Injury and Comeback
Shortly after his great start in England, Żyro suffered a calf injury that kept him from playing for about six weeks. Sadly, soon after he returned, he suffered a much more serious knee injury on April 6, 2016. A bad tackle from an opponent caused major damage to his knee.
Doctors said he might not be able to play for up to 16 months. It was a very difficult time, but Żyro worked hard to recover. He finally returned to the field almost 17 months later, on August 23, 2017. He came on as a substitute in a 2–0 win against Southampton.
Loans and Return to Poland
After his injury, Żyro went to play for other clubs on loan. A loan in football is when a player temporarily plays for a different club. On January 22, 2018, he joined Charlton Athletic on loan. Later that year, he went on loan to the Polish club Pogoń Szczecin.
In 2019, Żyro moved back to Poland permanently, signing a one-year contract with Korona Kielce. He continued to play for several other Polish clubs for the rest of his career.
Personal Life
Football runs in the Żyro family. His younger brother, Mateusz, who was born in 1998, is also a professional football player.
