Michael Anthony Brooks (born August 17, 1958 – died August 22, 2016) was an American professional basketball player. He also became a French citizen. Standing at 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 meters) tall, he played as a forward on the court.

Michael Brooks: A Basketball Star
Michael Brooks was a talented basketball player. He played in college, the NBA, and in France. He was known for his scoring and rebounding skills.
College Basketball Journey
Michael Brooks played college basketball at La Salle University. He was an amazing player for the La Salle Explorers. He scored over 2,600 points and grabbed over 1,300 rebounds. He helped La Salle reach the NCAA Tournament in 1978 and 1980.
He was named the "Big 5" MVP in those same years. The "Big 5" refers to five major college basketball teams in Philadelphia. In 1980, he was named the College Player of the Year. He is still one of the top scorers in NCAA history. Michael was honored in the La Salle Hall of Athletes in 1985. He also joined the Big 5 Hall of Fame in 1986.
Playing in the NBA
In 1980, Michael Brooks was chosen by the San Diego Clippers. He was the 9th player picked in the 1980 NBA Draft. He played in the NBA for six seasons.
He played for the Clippers from 1980 to 1984. Later, he played for the Indiana Pacers (1986–87). He also played for the Denver Nuggets (1987–88). In total, he played 319 games in the NBA.
Success in France
After his time in the NBA, Michael Brooks moved to France. He played for Limoges CSP from 1988 to 1992. With Limoges, he helped his team win the French national championship in 1989 and 1990.
He was recognized as the best foreign player in the French league. This award is called the "Foreign Player MVP." He won it in both 1991 and 1992. After Limoges, he played for other French teams. These included Levallois and Strasbourg. In the 1990–91 season, he had his best stats in France. He averaged 21.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game for Limoges.
Representing Team USA
Michael Brooks also played for Team USA. He competed in the Pan American Games in 1979. He helped his team win a gold medal there.
He was chosen to be the captain of the USA's team for the 1980 Summer Olympics. However, he could not play in the Olympics. This was because the United States boycotted the games that year. In 2007, he received a special award. It was a Congressional Gold Medal. This medal was given to athletes who missed the 1980 Olympics.
Life After Basketball
In 2005, Michael Brooks moved to Switzerland. There, he worked as a basketball coach. He helped train new players.
Michael had five children: Michael Johnson-Brooks, Athena Brooks, Julien Brooks, Jasper Brooks, and Sacha Brooks. He passed away on August 22, 2016. He was 58 years old. He was also survived by his mother and two younger sisters.
