Becoming a Politician
Before becoming a politician, Michael Harty worked as a general practitioner (GP). A GP is a doctor who helps people with their everyday health needs. He worked in Kilmihil, a town in County Clare.
When he decided to enter politics, he had a special message. He wanted to help doctors in smaller towns and villages. His campaign was called 'No Doctor No Village'. He wanted to make sure that rural areas would always have doctors.
Serving in the Dáil
In 2016, Michael Harty was elected as a TD. This meant he became a member of the Dáil Éireann, which is the main part of the Irish parliament.
When a new government was being formed in 2016, he voted for Enda Kenny to become the Taoiseach. The Taoiseach is the leader of the Irish government, similar to a prime minister.
