Michael Groo Massee (born September 1, 1952 – died October 20, 2016) was an American actor. He worked in movies and TV shows for over 30 years. Michael Massee often played characters who were villains or had a serious side.
Some of his well-known movie roles include Funboy in the fantasy film The Crow (1994). He also played Newton in the horror movie Tales from the Hood (1995) and Andy in Lost Highway (1997). Later, he appeared as the Gentleman in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its sequel in 2014. Massee also lent his voice to Bruce Banner in two animated Marvel movies in 2006.
On television, he was known for playing Ira Gaines in the first season of the action drama 24 (2001–2002). He also played Isaiah Haden in Revelations (2005) and Dyson Frost in FlashForward (2009–2010). Many fans remember him as "Dr." Charles Hoyt in the first two seasons of the police show Rizzoli & Isles (2010–2013).

Early life and education
Michael Groo Massee was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1952. He was the younger of two children. His parents were Jack Groo Massee and Holly Hoover.
His family later moved to Paris, France. Michael grew up there and went to high school. After finishing school, he came back to the United States. He settled in New York City. There, he went to Hunter College and studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre.
Acting career highlights
In 1993, Michael Massee played the character Funboy in the movie The Crow. The film starred Brandon Lee. During filming, an accident happened on set with a prop gun. This event was very difficult for Massee. He took a year off from acting and never watched the movie. In an interview years later, he shared that he still had bad dreams about it. He said, "I don't think you ever get over something like that."
After his break, Massee continued his acting career. In 1995, he played a police officer named Newton in the movie Tales from the Hood. He also gave his voice to the villain Spellbinder in the animated series The Batman.

Death
Michael Massee passed away in Los Angeles on October 20, 2016. He was 64 years old. He died from stomach cancer.
