The film stars Jim Belushi, Peter Dinklage, John Slattery, and Patrick Warburton. The voices are by Jason Lee, Amy Adams, and Brad Garrett. In this movie, Underdog is a regular dog, not a human-like one. A lemon beagle named Shoeshine plays Underdog. He wears a red sweater and a blue cape. The movie earned $65.3 million worldwide.

The Story of Underdog

The movie begins with a beagle on a police bomb squad. He makes a mistake during a drill and feels very sad. Because of this, he leaves the police force.

Later, a bad guy named Cad takes the beagle from the street. Cad works for a scientist named Simon Bar Sinister. Bar Sinister wants to test a new serum, a special liquid, on the dog. He hopes it will prove his ideas are right.

The beagle manages to escape Bar Sinister's lab. During his escape, he causes a fire. He gets covered in different chemicals. These chemicals change his DNA and give him amazing superpowers!

After escaping, the beagle avoids a tough Rottweiler named Riff Raff. Then, a man named Dan Unger accidentally hits the beagle with his car. But because of the serum, the dog is not hurt at all. Dan takes the dog home. He names him Shoeshine because the dog licks his shoes.

Dan's son, Jack, feels a bit jealous of Shoeshine. Dan used to be a police officer. He retired to spend more time with Jack after his wife passed away. But Dan still seems very busy.

One day, Jack goes to school and Dan goes to work. Shoeshine is left alone at home. He doesn't know about his new powers yet. He accidentally makes a huge mess in the house. When Jack comes home, he complains while cleaning up. Shoeshine then shocks both of them by saying it was an accident!

Jack is scared at first and runs away. But they meet at a park. Jack and Shoeshine talk and become friends. They both like Molly, Jack's friend, and her dog, Polly. After the girls leave, Jack and Shoeshine test Shoeshine's powers. They find out he has super speed, super strength, super hearing, and super smell.

One day, Molly and Polly are being robbed. Shoeshine quickly goes to help them. He discovers he can fly! He secretly rescues them. Shoeshine and Jack go home. Jack promises not to tell anyone about Shoeshine's powers.

Cad shows up at their door with posters of Shoeshine. He is looking for the dog. But Jack tricks him into leaving. Soon after, Dan comes home and sees the big mess.

Meanwhile, Bar Sinister and Cad find a new secret hideout. They plan a robbery to get money to rebuild Bar Sinister's lab. Jack sees Cad's robbery on the news. He convinces Shoeshine to stop them. Shoeshine puts on a disguise and saves the people. But Cad gets away.

Shoeshine decides to become a superhero. He calls himself "Underdog." He wears a red sweater and a blue cape as his disguise. He becomes the city's hero.

Bar Sinister tries many times to make more of his serum. He keeps failing. So, he sends Cad to get a sample of Underdog's DNA. Shoeshine tries to get a date with Polly as himself, but she says no. Then, he gets a date with her as Underdog!

Cad fails to catch Underdog. But he gets Underdog's collar. The collar has Shoeshine's name and address on it. Bar Sinister and Cad then kidnap Dan. They make Dan call Shoeshine for help.

Shoeshine and Jack try to rescue Dan. But Bar Sinister uses both Jack and Dan as hostages. He forces Shoeshine to give up his DNA. Bar Sinister then turns Underdog's superpowers into pills. He gives Shoeshine an antidote to take away his powers. He feeds the super pills to three trained German Shepherds.

Bar Sinister and Cad leave Dan, Jack, and Shoeshine trapped in the sewers. But Dan used to be a police officer. He uses his experience to free everyone. They chase after Bar Sinister with a needle full of the antidote.

At city hall, Bar Sinister takes the mayor hostage. He tells Cad to put a bomb on the roof. This bomb has a mind-control serum in it. Molly and Polly follow Cad. Shoeshine smells the bomb. Even though he lost his powers, he bravely goes into the building.

During a fight with Bar Sinister, Shoeshine accidentally rips open Bar Sinister's pocket. He swallows a super pill! This brings back his powers. Shoeshine quickly stops the German Shepherds when he hears Molly and Polly crying for help. But Bar Sinister eats a pill too. He distracts Shoeshine by throwing a shield like a Frisbee.

When the German Shepherds recover, Shoeshine convinces them to turn against Bar Sinister. Bar Sinister had not treated them well. While the dogs hold Bar Sinister, Underdog goes to the roof. He saves Molly and Polly. He tells them to take the mind-control serum to the police. He then takes the bomb away from the city.

Dan arrives and gives Bar Sinister the antidote. Underdog buries the bomb deep underground just before it explodes. Underdog tries to escape the blast. But he gets caught in the explosion and is launched into space. Everyone thinks he is dead.

Amidst a sad crowd, Underdog comes back to life! Everyone is overjoyed. Dan gets his job back as a police officer. Bar Sinister and Cad are arrested. Shoeshine continues to protect Capital City as Underdog.
