Michael Ortega's Early Career
Michael Ortega was born in Palmar de Varela, Colombia. He started playing football at a young age with the Deportivo Cali team. He quickly moved up to their professional squad.
On March 7, 2010, Michael made his first appearance for the senior team. He was only 17 years old at the time. He played for 68 minutes in a game against Junior. Later, on August 4, 2009, he also played in the Copa Sudamericana. He started that game against Universidad de Chile.
Playing for Atlas and International Teams
On July 10, 2009, Ortega joined the Mexican club Atlas. He continued to develop his skills there.
In 2011, Michael Ortega had the honor of representing his country. He played for the Colombia U20 team. He participated in two big tournaments that year: the 2011 South American Youth Championship and the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Moving to Europe
Michael Ortega's talent caught the eye of European clubs. On August 17, 2011, he signed a loan deal with Bundesliga team Bayer 04 Leverkusen in Germany. This loan included an option for them to sign him permanently in 2013.
Later, on August 7, 2012, Bayer Leverkusen loaned Ortega to another German club, VfL Bochum. This gave him more opportunities to play and gain experience in European football.
Return to South America
In July 2013, Michael Ortega returned to South America. He joined Atletico Junior permanently. He later played for other teams like Figueirense in Brazil.
He continued his career playing for various clubs. These included Once Caldas and Deportivo Pasto in Colombia. He also played for Baniyas in the United Arab Emirates and Omonia in Cyprus.
In 2021, he returned to his first professional club, Deportivo Cali. Since 2022, he has been playing for The Strongest in Bolivia.
