Football Journey
Michael Ortega was born in Palmar de Varela, Colombia. He started his football journey at a young age. He joined the youth team of Deportivo Cali.
Starting in Colombia
Michael worked his way up to the professional team at Deportivo Cali. On March 7, 2010, he played his first game with the senior team. He was only 17 years old at the time. He played for 68 minutes against Junior.
He also made his debut in an important tournament called the Copa Sudamericana. This happened on August 4, 2009, when he started a game against Universidad de Chile.
Playing in Mexico and Germany
On July 10, 2009, Michael Ortega moved to Mexico. He joined a club called Atlas.
In 2011, he got to represent his country, Colombia. He played for the Colombia U20 team. He took part in two big youth tournaments: the 2011 South American Youth Championship and the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Later, on August 17, 2011, Michael got a chance to play in Germany. He joined Bundesliga team Bayer 04 Leverkusen. This was a "loan deal," which means he played for them for a while but still belonged to his original club, Atlas. The deal included an option for Bayer Leverkusen to sign him permanently later.
On August 7, 2012, Bayer Leverkusen loaned Michael to another German team, VfL Bochum.
Return to Colombia and Beyond
In July 2013, Michael Ortega returned to Colombia. He joined Atletico Junior permanently. After that, he played for several other teams. These included Figueirense in Brazil, Once Caldas and Deportivo Pasto back in Colombia.
He also played internationally for Baniyas in the United Arab Emirates and Omonia in Cyprus. In 2021, he returned to Deportivo Cali for another period. Currently, he plays for The Strongest in Bolivia.
