Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Michael Pangilinan was born on November 26, 1995, in Pulilan, Bulacan, Philippines. He is the second of three children. His parents, Tony and Precy Pangilinan, were car dealers who also loved music. This love for music was passed down to Michael.
Michael started his journey in music early. In 2012, he joined The X Factor Philippines, a TV show where people compete to show off their singing talent. He made it to the Top 20 contestants before being eliminated. After this, he often appeared on the late-night show Walang Tulugan on GMA.
Rising to Stardom
Michael got his big break in 2014. He sang a song called "Pare, Mahal Mo Raw Ako" for the Himig Handog PPop Love Songs contest. This song was written by Joven Tan and quickly became very popular because of its unique and touching theme.
In 2015, Michael joined Your Face Sounds Familiar, a show where celebrities impersonate famous singers. He impressed many people with his performances and finished as the first runner-up. The winner of that season was Denise Laurel.
Michael has also sung many theme songs for TV shows (called teleseries) on ABS-CBN and for movies by Star Cinema. He was part of the singing group Harana with Marlo Mortel, Bryan Santos, and Joseph Marco. He has released albums under Star Music, including his self-titled album Michael Pangilinan and Michael. Since 2018, he has been a part of the all-male singing trio called BuDaKhel, along with Bugoy Drilon and Daryl Ong.
Michael can play the guitar even though he never took formal lessons. He learned because his parents loved music. His singing style, which is R&B, was inspired by artists like Luke Mejares and Duncan Ramos. Other singers who influenced him include Janno Gibbs, Jay R, and Brian McKnight.
