Michael Purefoy (born 1562, died 1627) was an English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of today's Parliament. He served there in 1584 and again from 1621 to 1622.

Michael Purefoy was an important person in England during the 16th and 17th centuries. He helped make laws for the country. He came from a family in a place called Caldecote.

Early Life and Education

Michael Purefoy was the son of Thomas Purefoy and Elizabeth Bradshaw. He started studying at Peterhouse, Cambridge University in 1576. This is called "matriculating." He then earned his first degree (BA) from Magdalene College, Cambridge in 1582. He continued his studies and received his master's degree (MA) in 1585. Later, in 1598, his degrees were also recognized at Oxford University.

A Career in Politics

In 1584, Michael Purefoy was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for a town called Clitheroe. An MP is someone who represents a group of people in the government. They help decide on new laws and important issues.

He also had other important jobs. From 1598, he worked as a deputy official in Nottinghamshire, helping with church administration. Later, in 1621, he was elected again as an MP, this time for Nottingham.

Later Life and Legacy

Michael Purefoy never married. He passed away in 1627. He was buried in the church at Caldecote. His cousin, Gamaliel Purefoy, put up a special monument there to remember him.
