Michael Seater (born January 15, 1987) is a Canadian actor, director, writer, and producer. He is well-known for his roles as Spencer Sharpe in The Zack Files, Lucas Randall in Strange Days at Blake Holsey High, and Derek Venturi in Life with Derek. He also played Tom Bellow in 18 to Life and the character James Gillies in Murdoch Mysteries.

Besides acting, Michael has also worked behind the camera. He has written, directed, and produced his own movies.

Early Life

Michael Seater was born and grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He went to the Etobicoke School of the Arts, which is a special school for young artists. He started acting when he was a child.

Acting Career

Michael began his acting journey in the late 1990s. He appeared in many short films, TV movies, and television shows.

In 2000, he voiced the main character, Mattimeo, in the animated series Mattimeo: A Tale of Redwall. From 2002 to 2006, he starred as Lucas Randall in the TV series Strange Days at Blake Holsey High. He also had a role in the 2005 film The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio, which featured actress Julianne Moore. Michael also played Owen in the series ReGenesis.

Life with Derek

Michael became very popular for his role as Derek Venturi in the Canadian family sitcom Life with Derek. This show was a big hit with teenagers. Michael starred in the series from 2005 until it ended in 2009. There were 70 episodes over four seasons.

After Life with Derek finished, Michael appeared in the 2009 movie Degrassi Goes Hollywood. In 2010, he starred in the CBC series 18 to Life. He also played a recurring role as the clever criminal James Gillies in the Canadian show Murdoch Mysteries from 2009 to 2017.

From 2012 to 2013, Michael had a recurring role in the TV series Bomb Girls. He also appeared in Bomb Girls: Facing the Enemy, a TV movie based on the series.

Behind the Camera: Directing and Writing

In 2015, Michael Seater wrote and directed his first feature film, People Hold On. This movie was nominated for an award for its original song. It was shown for the first time at the Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival in 2015.

In 2016, Michael wrote and directed his second feature film, Sadie's Last Days on Earth. This movie was released in theaters on December 9, 2016.

Personal Life

Michael Seater is good friends with his Life with Derek co-star Ashley Leggat.
