Strange Days at Blake Holsey High (also known as Black Hole High) is a fun Canadian science fiction TV show. It first aired in North America in October 2002. The series is set at a made-up boarding school called Blake Holsey High.

The show follows a group of five students and their teacher who are part of the Science Club. They investigate strange things happening at the school. Many of these mysteries are connected to a wormhole on the school grounds. The show ran for four seasons and became very popular around the world.

Jim Rapsas created the series. It mixes mystery, drama, romance, and comedy. The stories often use real science ideas. The characters also deal with their own feelings and school challenges. The show is known for being great family entertainment. There are 42 episodes, each about 25 minutes long. The last three episodes aired in January 2006. These final episodes were put together as a movie called Strange Days: Conclusions. The show was filmed at the Auchmar Estate in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

What the Show is About

The show is all about five friends and their favorite teacher. They join the Science Club at Blake Holsey High. This is a boarding school in southern Ontario. The school's name "Blake Holsey" sounds a bit like "black hole". This is a hint because strange, unusual things are always happening there. These events often affect the students in unexpected ways.

The Science Club tries to figure out what a wormhole, a floating Qigong ball, and a destroyed lab called Pearadyne Industries have to do with these mysteries. Pearadyne Industries was right next to the school.

Episodes

The series has 42 exciting episodes. You can find a full list of them on the main episode page.

Meet the Characters

  • Josie Trent (Emma Taylor-Isherwood) – Josie is the main character. She is new to Blake Holsey High at the start of the show. She was the first to find the wormhole. Josie is smart, curious, and determined. She really wants to know what is going on. She likes Vaughn, but their relationship has its ups and downs.
  • Corrine Baxter (Shadia Simmons) – Corrine is Josie's best friend and roommate. She is known as the "brains" of the Science Club. She even says her IQ is 172! Corrine is very neat and always follows the rules. Unlike Josie, she is not very messy or rebellious. She is very smart in school but sometimes struggles with social situations. She also likes Marshall.
  • Lucas Randall (Michael Seater) – Lucas loves conspiracy theories. He is sure that aliens exist! He often comes up with unusual ideas that help save the day. Lucas is very driven to uncover the school's secrets and what Victor Pearson and Pearadyne Labs are really up to. He used to like Josie, but later becomes good friends with Vaughn.
  • Marshall Wheeler (Noah Reid) – Marshall is Lucas's best friend and roommate. He is more social and fun-loving than Lucas. He helps Lucas stay grounded. Marshall is smart and dedicated to the Science Club. But he also likes to think about business ideas. He plays in a band called Magnet 360 with other students. He sometimes finds it hard to show his feelings, especially his crush on Corrine.
  • Vaughn Pearson (Robert Clark) – Vaughn is the fifth student in the Science Club. He is smart but sometimes has trouble with school because of dyslexia. His father is Victor Pearson, who owns Pearadyne Industries. Vaughn and Josie like each other, but they have trust issues. At first, Vaughn seems like a bully, but he soon becomes friends with the Science Club.
  • Professor Noel Zachary (Jeff Douglas) – Professor Zachary, or "Z," is the teacher who leads the Science Club. Like Josie, he is very curious about the mysteries at Blake Holsey High. He got a scholarship from Pearadyne Industries to become a teacher. He is the only adult the Science Club fully trusts. He guides the students and helps them with their investigations.
  • Principal Amanda Durst (Valerie Boyle) – Principal Durst is the strict principal. She often disagrees with Professor Zachary's relaxed style. She used to be a science teacher. She is unwillingly involved in Victor Pearson's plans.
  • Victor Pearson (Lawrence Bayne) – Victor Pearson helps fund the school. He often gets in the way of the Science Club's investigations. He is secretive and can be tough. Josie and Lucas do not trust him, which makes things awkward for his son, Vaughn. Even though Victor often seems like the bad guy, it is later revealed that he is actually trying to do good. He wants to fix Pearadyne and find his wife, who was lost in time.
  • The Janitor (Tony Munch) – The Janitor is a mysterious character. He seems to know all about the secrets at Blake Holsey High but rarely shares much. In the last episode, Josie's clone from the future explains that the Janitor is an "Observer's observer." He was sent from the far future to make sure that past events happen as they should.

Important Objects and Places

  • Qigong Ball/Chi Ball/Floating Ball: This was once a normal stress ball. But it became a source of amazing power. Josie used these balls to relax. One day, Professor Zachary took one from her. The other ball was affected by the wormhole's energy during a trip to the 1970s. This made it float and defy gravity. A younger Victor Pearson stole this special ball from Josie years ago when he was at Blake Holsey High. He gave it to Sarah Lynch, and they used it to start Pearadyne Industries. The Chi Ball powered their lab, which caused an explosion. This destroyed Pearadyne and made Sarah disappear. Because of this, a wormhole formed at Blake Holsey, causing other strange events. When Josie found the ball again, she thought Vaughn and Victor were planning to use it. Josie stole it back and replaced it with a normal ball. This made Victor think the Chi Ball had lost its power. However, Josie's clone from the future later stole the floating ball back and returned it to Victor.
  • Wormhole: This is a powerful swirling tunnel. It can lead to either the future or the past. It is found in the science teacher's office at Blake Holsey. The wormhole opens at random times and for different lengths. It is also uncertain where it will lead. Many people have tried to keep the wormhole a secret. But the energy from the wormhole affects the students and the school. This happens because of the students' feelings and what they are going through.
  • Pearadyne Industries/Labs: This was a laboratory created by Victor Pearson and Sarah Lynch. They used it to invent things and study quantum physics. On October 4, 1987, Pearadyne was destroyed in an explosion. Many workers disappeared, including Sarah Lynch, who is Vaughn's mother.
