Michael Whitehall was born in Exeter, Devon, England, on April 12, 1940. He went to a boarding school called Ampleforth College in Yorkshire. This was a Catholic school run by monks.
After school, Michael worked as a film reporter. He wrote for a newspaper called The Universe. His grandfather helped pay for his education.
