Michał Życzkowski (born April 12, 1930 – died May 24, 2006) was a brilliant Polish mechanical engineer. This means he was an expert in designing, building, and using machines. He made important contributions to the world of engineering.

A Life of Learning and Teaching
Michał Życzkowski was born in the beautiful city of Kraków, Poland. He loved to learn and study. In 1954, he finished his studies at the Tadeusz Kościuszko University of Technology. He then went on to study even more, earning another diploma in 1958 from the famous Imperial College London.
Becoming a Professor
Michał Życzkowski became a professor at the Cracow University of Technology. He was incredibly smart and dedicated. In fact, he became a professor when he was only 31 years old! This made him the youngest professor in Poland during his time.
Guiding Future Engineers
As a professor, he helped many students learn and grow. He advised 29 students who were working on their Ph.D. degrees. A Ph.D. is a very high academic degree. Out of these 29 students, 11 of them also became professors later on! This shows how good he was at teaching and inspiring others.
Important Science Groups
Michał Życzkowski was also a respected member of several important science groups. He was a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Academy of Learning. He was also a foreign corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. These memberships show how highly regarded he was in the scientific community.
His Family
Michał Życzkowski had four children. One of his children, Karol Życzkowski, also became a well-known scientist. Michał Życzkowski passed away in his home city of Krakow.
