Micheline Lanctôt (born May 12, 1947) is a talented Canadian artist. She is known for her work as an actress, a film director, a writer for movies, and even a musician.

Biography
Early Life and Education
Micheline Lanctôt was born in Frelighsburg, Quebec. She studied many creative subjects after high school. These included music, fine arts, and theatre. She went to Collège Jésus-Marie in Outremont. She also studied art history at the Université de Montréal and the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal. Later, she learned about film animation. She studied at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Then she worked for four years at Potterton Productions. This was Gerald Potterton's studio.
Acting Career
Micheline Lanctôt started acting in 1972. She won an award for Best Actress for her first main role. This was in the movie The True Nature of Bernadette. Since then, she has acted in many films and TV shows. Some of her notable roles include The Heavenly Bodies. She also appeared in The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. Another role was in Blood Relatives. She also starred in the TV series Jamais deux sans toi.
Directing Films and Plays
Micheline Lanctôt has also directed plays for the theatre. In 1994, she directed Oleanna in Montreal. In 1999, she directed Bousille et les justes.
She began directing live-action films in 1980. Her first film was The Handyman. This movie was nominated for top awards in 1981. Her next film, Sonatine (1984), was a big success. It helped start the career of actress Pascale Bussières. Sonatine won the Genie Award for Best Director in 1985. It also won the Silver Lion award at the 41st Venice International Film Festival. This award was for the best first film.
Teaching and Other Roles
Since 1982, Lanctôt has taught part-time. She teaches at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. This school is part of Concordia University.
In 2004, she supported Gaétan Soucy's book. The book was called The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches. This was for a TV show called Le Combat des livres.
In 2016, she helped organize a film festival. It was called the Festival Vues dans la tête de... in Rivière-du-Loup. She also supports the Prix collégial du cinéma québécois. This is an award given by film students in Quebec. They choose the best Quebec film of the year.
Awards and Recognition
- Winner of an Etrog Award (now called Genie), for best lead actress (1972).
- Winner of the Genie Award, for best director, for Sonatine (1984).
- Winner of the Silver Lion, Venice Film Festival for best first film, Sonatine (1984).
- Received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award (2003). This award honors a lifetime of artistic achievement.
