Micheline Lanctôt (born May 12, 1947) is a talented Canadian artist. She is well-known as an actress, film director, and screenwriter. She also has a background in music.

About Micheline Lanctôt
Micheline Lanctôt was born in Frelighsburg, Quebec. After high school, she studied music, fine arts, and theatre. She also learned about art history. Later, she studied how to make animated films. She learned at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Then she worked for four years at Potterton Productions.
Her Acting Career
Lanctôt started acting in 1972. She quickly won a top Canadian award for Best Actress. This was for her main role in the movie The True Nature of Bernadette. Since then, she has acted in many films and TV shows. Some of her famous roles include The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz and the TV series Jamais deux sans toi.
Directing Films and Plays
Micheline Lanctôt also directs movies and plays. She directed a play called Oleanna in Montreal in 1994. In 1999, she directed Bousille et les justes.
She began directing live-action films in 1980. Her first film was The Handyman. It was nominated for best direction and best film. Her next film, Sonatine (1984), was a big success. It helped start the career of actress Pascale Bussières. For Sonatine, Lanctôt won the Genie Award for Best Director. She also won the Silver Lion award at the Venice International Film Festival. This award was for the best first film.
Teaching and Other Work
Since 1982, Lanctôt has been a teacher. She teaches part-time at Concordia University's film school. In 2016, she helped organize the Festival Vues dans la tête de... film festival. She also supports the Prix collégial du cinéma québécois. This program helps film students choose the best Quebec film each year.
