Michelle Mitchenor is an American actress who has starred in several TV shows and movies. You might know her as Detective Sonya Bailey from the action-packed TV series Lethal Weapon. She also played Jayla Wright in the comedy-drama series First Wives Club.
Early Life and Education
Michelle Mitchenor grew up in Trenton, New Jersey. From a young age, she loved performing. She went to a special high school, the Ocean County Performing Arts Academy, to learn about dancing and acting.
After high school, Michelle continued her studies at Towson University. She earned a degree in dancing there. Later, she attended the famous Juilliard School, where she started appearing in online web-series.
Acting Career Highlights
Michelle Mitchenor began her acting journey in movies and TV shows. In 2015, she made her big screen debut in the musical-drama film Chi-Raq, directed by Spike Lee.
The next year, in 2016, Michelle landed a major role in the TV series Lethal Weapon. She played Detective Sonya Bailey, a main character in the action-comedy show. This series ran until 2019.
After Lethal Weapon, Michelle appeared in other projects. In 2019, she starred in the thriller film Fanatic for BET Her. She also co-starred in the romantic comedy movie Always a Bridesmaid.
In 2021, Michelle joined the cast of the BET+ comedy-drama series First Wives Club. She played the character Jayla Wright. More recently, in 2023, she took on the role of Tonesa Welch in the biographical crime drama film First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story.
