Micheál Anthony Prendergast (born around 1921, died March 25, 1998) was an Irish farmer, businessman, and politician. He was a member of the Fine Gael political party.
Early Life and Family
Micheál Prendergast was born in Farranfore, a town in County Kerry, Ireland. He grew up in Kilcock, which is in County Kildare. In 1959, he married his wife, Barbara, who was from Australia. They had a large family with one son and six daughters.
His Work in Business and Farming
Micheál spent many years working in the business of exporting livestock (farm animals like cattle or sheep) from Ireland to other countries. He was a very active member of groups that supported this trade. For example, he was the chairman of the Irish Live Stock Exporters' and Traders' Association in 1961 and again in 1969. He also led the national executive of the Irish Livestock Trade in 1970.
He was involved in other important organizations too. He was a member of the Dublin Port and Docks Board, which helps manage the busy port in Dublin. From 1960 to 1963, he was on the council of the Agricultural Institute. This organization is now known as Teagasc, and it helps with research and education in farming.
