What is Mid Auchinleck?
Mid Auchinleck was once the name of a farm that used to stand in this exact spot. Today, the farm is gone, but its name lives on as the name of the area.
A Look into the Past: The Auchinleck Farms
The Mid Auchinleck farm was part of a group of farms. These included Nether Auchinleck, Laigh Auchinleck, Mid Auchinleck, and High Auchinleck. These farms were likely the last parts of a much older, small estate or "fiefdom."
This old estate probably existed around the 12th or 13th century. It stretched from the shore of the River Clyde (where Nether Auchinleck was) all the way inland to the higher ground behind Port Glasgow (where High Auchinleck was).
What Remains Today?
As of 2022, only High Auchinleck still exists. The other farms, including Mid Auchinleck, have disappeared over time. Sadly, not much else is known about this ancient group of farms or the estate they belonged to.
