History of Middle Grove
Middle Grove was first settled in 1830. It was founded by two people, John C. Milligan and Jacob Whittenburg. The community got its name because it was located in the middle of a farming area.
A post office was opened in Middle Grove in 1835. This office helped people send and receive mail. In 1894, the name of the post office was changed slightly to "Middlegrove." However, the post office closed down in 1907.
In 1942, Middle Grove experienced very heavy rains. The water levels rose so high that some residents had to go onto their rooftops. They waited there for help to arrive.
Where is Middle Grove?
Middle Grove is located in the southwestern part of Monroe County. It is about 8 miles southwest of a town called Madison. The community is also about 10 miles east of Moberly. The county seat, Paris, is about 19 miles southwest of Middle Grove.
The area of Middle Grove is about 0.56 square miles, and all of it is land. A stream called Milligan Creek forms the eastern edge of the community. This creek flows north towards the Elk Fork of the Salt River.

Famous People from Middle Grove
- Xenophon Overton Pindall (1873-1935) was born near Middle Grove. He became an important person in Arkansas politics. He was a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives. He also served in the Arkansas State Senate. For a time, he was the Acting Governor of Arkansas. This means he took on the role of governor for a period.
