Middle Sister Island is a small island in Lake Erie. It is about 9.5 acres (3.8 hectares) in size. This island is part of a group called the Sister Islands. These islands are found in the western part of Lake Erie.
Middle Sister Island is known for being very natural. It is one of the most untouched islands in the area. The other main islands in this group are West Sister Island and East Sister Island. West Sister Island is in Ohio, USA. East Sister Island is also in Ontario, Canada.

History of Middle Sister Island
The War of 1812
Middle Sister Island played a role in the War of 1812. This war was fought between the United States and Great Britain. It also involved Native American allies.
Before a big battle, American troops used the island. They gathered there before going into Canada. This was just before the Battle of the Thames. The battle was a major victory for the United States.
Plants and Animals
Middle Sister Island is home to many plants and animals. It has a special type of forest. This forest is called a Carolinian forest.
However, some birds are causing problems for the trees. Many double-crested cormorants live on the island. These birds produce a lot of guano. Guano is bird droppings.
The guano is harming the trees. It stops them from growing well. This problem also affects nearby East Sister Island and Middle Island.
