Middleton is a small place in Washington County, Oregon, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's governed by the county.
Middleton was once called Stringtown. It's located in the beautiful state of Oregon.
A Look at Middleton's History
Middleton has an interesting past. It played a role in connecting different areas of Oregon.
Early Communication and Travel
In the early days, people needed better ways to communicate and travel. To help with this, a post office was opened in Middleton in 1869. This made it easier to send letters and packages between important cities like Portland and Lafayette.
Later, on July 1, 1892, a train station was built in Middleton. This was a big step for transportation. It allowed people and goods to move more easily by train. The post office closed a few years later, in 1905.
Recent Community Decisions
Communities sometimes decide to join a nearby city. This is called annexation. In November 2011, people in parts of Middleton had a vote. They decided whether to join the nearby city of Sherwood. The vote did not pass, so those parts of Middleton remained an unincorporated community.
