Midkiff is a small, quiet community in northeastern Midland County, Texas, United States. It's not officially a city or town with its own government, but rather a community where people live. Midkiff is located along RM 2401 and FM 3095. It sits north of the city of Rankin. The community is about 2,736 feet (834 meters) above sea level. Midkiff has its own post office, which serves the ZIP code 79755. In 2000, about 245 people lived in the area covered by this ZIP code.
History of Midkiff
Midkiff started in the early 1950s. This was a time when there was a lot of oil drilling happening in the area. The community got its name from an older community that used to be nearby in Midland County.
The people who founded Midkiff first wanted to name it "Hadacol Corner". However, the U.S. Postal Service didn't approve of this name. This was likely because "Hadacol" was a registered brand name. To make sure they could have a post office in their new community, the founders agreed to change the name. The Midkiff post office officially opened in September 1952.
Climate
Midkiff has a semiarid climate. This means the area is generally dry, but it's not a complete desert. It receives some rain, but not a lot, making it different from very wet or very dry places.
