Midnapore is a friendly community located in the big city of Calgary, in the province of Alberta, Canada. It's a great place to live, with lots of green spaces and even its own special lake! Midnapore is surrounded by Fish Creek Provincial Park to the north and east, Sun Valley Boulevard to the south, and Macleod Trail to the west.

A Look Back in Time

Midnapore wasn't always part of Calgary. It used to be a small village, or "hamlet," managed by a local district. But on December 30, 1961, the City of Calgary officially took over Midnapore and the land around it. This process is called "annexation," which means the city expanded its borders to include Midnapore.

Midnapore's Special Lake

Midnapore has its very own community lake, which is about 12 hectares (30 acres) in size. This lake was created in the summer of 1976. Workers dug out a lot of earth to make the lake, and some of that earth was used to build a 17-meter (56-foot) hill in the nearby park.

The lake holds a huge amount of water, about 625 million liters (165 million gallons), and is up to 10 meters (33 feet) deep. The lake and its park are popular spots for fun activities. In the summer, people enjoy swimming, boating, and fishing. In the winter, it's a great place for ice skating and other winter sports.

To help keep the lake beautiful and well-maintained, homeowners in Midnapore pay a small fee as part of their property taxes. This money helps make sure the lake stays a wonderful place for everyone to enjoy.
