Becoming President of Honduras

In 1924, the National Party of Honduras chose Miguel Paz Barahona as their candidate for president. The other main political group, the Liberal Party of Honduras (PLH), decided not to put forward their own candidate.

Because of this, Miguel Paz Barahona won the election with almost all the votes. He received 99 percent of the vote. This made him the 36th President of Honduras.

A Time of Peace and Stability

After his term ended in 1929, Vicente Mejía Colindres from the Liberal Party of Honduras became president. This change of power was very special. It was one of the first times in Honduras that power was passed peacefully from one political party to another.
