Mikana is a small, quiet community in Barron County, Wisconsin, in the United States. It's not a big city, but a special kind of place called an unincorporated community. You can find Mikana right on the western side of Red Cedar Lake. It's also southwest of a town called Birchwood, and it's part of the larger area known as Cedar Lake.

Mikana's Beginnings

Mikana started to grow in 1902. This was around the time a railroad line reached the area, making it easier for people to travel and for goods to be moved. When a town is platted, it means someone drew up a map showing how the land would be divided into streets and building lots.

The name Mikana comes from the Ojibwe language. It means "road" or "trail." This name likely reflects the paths or routes that were important in the area long ago. Mikana also had its own post office. It first opened on June 3, 1902, and served the community for many years before closing on October 21, 1995.

Fun Things to Do in Mikana

Mikana is well-known in its region for a very special event: its Fourth of July celebration! People especially love the parade. It's often called "The Biggest Littlest Fourth of July Parade." This nickname shows how much fun and excitement it brings, even though Mikana is a smaller community.
