Michael Boynton Jr. (born January 17, 1982) is an American basketball coach. He is currently an assistant coach for the University of Michigan men's basketball team. Before this, he was the head coach at Oklahoma State University from 2017 to 2024.

Playing Basketball
High School Success
Mike Boynton grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He was a talented basketball player in high school. He led his team at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School to the city semifinals. He was also named a first-team All-New York City player. During that time, he averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 11 assists per game.
College Career at South Carolina
From 2000 to 2004, Boynton played college basketball for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. He was known for his three-point shots, making 129 of them during his college career. He played in 125 games, which put him among the top players for games played at South Carolina. In 2004, Boynton and the Gamecocks team made it to the NCAA Tournament. He earned a degree in African-American Studies from the university.
Coaching Journey
Starting as a Coach
After his playing days, Boynton began his coaching career. He started as a graduate manager at Furman University for the 2004–05 season. Then, he became an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina University from 2005 to 2007. For the 2007–08 season, he moved to Wofford College as an associate head coach.
Returning to South Carolina and Moving On
Boynton returned to the University of South Carolina in 2008. He worked there as an assistant coach until 2013. He then joined coach Brad Underwood at Stephen F. Austin State University in 2013. When Underwood became the head coach at Oklahoma State, Boynton followed him to Stillwater, Oklahoma to continue as an assistant coach.
Becoming a Head Coach
On March 24, 2017, Mike Boynton was chosen as the 20th head coach for the Oklahoma State University men's basketball team. He led the team for seven years. During his time as head coach, his overall record was 119 wins and 109 losses. He guided the team to the NCAA Tournament once.
Current Role at Michigan
Boynton's time as head coach at Oklahoma State ended on March 14, 2024. About a month later, he was hired by Dusty May as the first assistant coach for the University of Michigan men's basketball team.
Personal Life
Mike Boynton is married to Jenny Boynton. They have a son and a daughter. He also has three older sisters. Boynton is a Christian.
