Michael Bryant Eagles, born on March 7, 1963, is a Canadian who used to play professional ice hockey. He was a forward in the National Hockey League (NHL) for sixteen years. Today, he works as the Athletic Director at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Early Hockey Days
Before joining the NHL, Michael Eagles played for the Kitchener Rangers team. He helped them win two big championships in the Ontario Hockey League in 1981 and 1982. They also won the Memorial Cup in 1982, which is a very important trophy for junior hockey teams in Canada.
Playing in the NHL
Michael Eagles was chosen by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. This means they picked him to play for their team. He was the 116th player picked that year.
He played in 853 NHL games during his career. He scored 74 goals and made 122 assists, adding up to 196 points. An assist is when you help a teammate score a goal.
Eagles played for several teams in the NHL:
- Quebec Nordiques (1982-1988)
- Chicago Blackhawks (1988-1990)
- Winnipeg Jets (1990-1994)
- Washington Capitals (1994-2000)

After His Playing Career
After he stopped playing professional hockey, Michael Eagles became a coach. In 2002, he was named the head coach for the St. Thomas University Tommies. They are part of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport league.
In his first year as coach, he led the Tommies to win their league championship. He was also named the CIS coach of the year, which is a big honor. In 2011, he decided to leave his coaching job. He then became the Athletic Director for St. Thomas University, where he helps manage all the sports programs.
Representing Canada
Michael Eagles also played for his home country, Canada. He joined Team Canada at the 1983 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. This is a big tournament for young hockey players from around the world. The championships were held in the Soviet Union that year. As a member of the Canadian team, he helped them win a bronze medal.
