Michael Hordy was born on October 10, 1956, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. He is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. Michael played as a defence player. He spent a short time in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the New York Islanders.
Michael Hordy's Hockey Journey
Michael Hordy started his hockey career playing in junior leagues. He was a talented player who worked hard to improve his skills. His journey took him through several different leagues before and after his time in the NHL.
Early Years and Junior Hockey
Michael began his hockey path with the Thunder Bay Hurricanes in the MWJHL league. He then moved on to play for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the OMJHL. During his time with the Greyhounds, he showed great skill as a defenceman. He scored 18 goals and had 33 assists in the 1974–75 season. The next year, he scored 17 goals and had 51 assists.
In 1976, Michael was drafted by two different professional hockey leagues. The New York Islanders picked him 86th overall in the NHL Draft. The Houston Aeros also drafted him 82nd overall in the World Hockey Association (WHA) Draft.
Playing in the NHL and Other Leagues
Michael Hordy played a total of eleven games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New York Islanders. He played two games during the 1978–79 season and nine games in the 1979–80 season.
Most of his professional career was spent in other leagues. He played many seasons in the CHL for teams like the Fort Worth Texans and the Indianapolis Checkers. He also played in the IHL for the Muskegon Mohawks.
Michael even played hockey in Switzerland for the Grasshopper Club Zürich in the NLB. Later in his career, he played in the AHL for the Maine Mariners. He retired from professional hockey in 1985.
