Early Life
Mike Kalambay was born in Kinshasa. His parents are Joseph Kabamuanishi and Monique Ngola. He spent his childhood growing up in Mbuji-Mayi. Mike has four brothers and sisters.
Music Career
Mike started his music journey at a young age. In 1994, when he was 16, he was baptized at the Cité Béthel Church. He began singing in a youth church choir called "Les étoiles de Louange," which means "The stars of Praise." In this choir, he met many other singers who would later become famous in Congolese gospel music, like Moise Mbiye.
People first noticed Mike's amazing talent around the year 2000. He worked with Thomas Lokofe and released two albums: "Nzambe na Eliya" and "Je lève mes yeux". Mike also sang on a popular song called "Eh Yahweh" from Marie Misamu's album, "Mystére du Voile - 100% Adoration".
In 2005, Mike released his first solo album, Jésus "mon tout". It was a big hit both in Kinshasa and around the world, especially the song "Ngolu." This album was very successful and led to the creation of his music group, Shekina Music.
With Shekina Music, Mike released his second album, "1 jour..." (which means "One day...") in 2007. This album also featured the singer Sandra Mbuyi. In 2008, Mike Kalambay and Shekina Music went on their first international tour in France.
In 2009, Mike and Shekina Music released another successful album called "Dans Ta Présence - Vol. 1". It included popular songs like "Bonganga" and "Mokonzi Na Nga." Later that year, they performed live in Lubumbashi. Three years later, in 2012, they released "Dans Ta Présence - Vol. 2" with new songs.
In 2014, Mike started his own music company, MK Productions. Through this company, he released a new album with Shekina Music called "Je suis une Étoile" (meaning "I am a Star"). In 2017, Mike hosted a special concert event called the Mike Kalambay Concert Boat Ride. In 2019, he released the song "Mon avocat" and received nominations for awards. In 2020, his song "C'est ton jour" became very popular. Soon after, he became an ambassador for the Maajabu Gospel record label.
