Michael Fitzgibbon Reid (born November 24, 1970) is a former professional American football player. He played as a defensive back for the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League (NFL). He played for two seasons with the team. The Eagles chose him in the third round of the 1993 NFL draft. Before that, he played college football at North Carolina State University.

Early Life and College Football

Michael Fitzgibbon Reid was born on November 24, 1970. His hometown is Spartanburg, South Carolina. He went to Gettys D. Broome High School in Spartanburg.

Playing for NC State

Reid played college football for the NC State Wolfpack. This is the team for North Carolina State University. He played for four years, from 1989 to 1992. He was a "letterman" each of those years. This means he earned a special award for playing well in a varsity sport.

In 1991, he caught two passes from the other team, called interceptions. These plays gained 31 yards. He also returned one punt for nine yards. For his great play, he was named second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). This award came from the Associated Press (AP).

In 1992, Reid had an even better year. He made three interceptions, gaining 88 yards. He also returned one punt for 28 yards. This earned him first-team All-ACC honors from the AP. That same year, he was also named a second-team All-American. This means he was one of the best players in the entire country. Both the AP and The Sporting News gave him this honor.

Professional Football Career

The Philadelphia Eagles picked Mike Reid in the 1993 NFL draft. He was the 77th player chosen overall. This happened in the third round of the draft. He officially joined the team on June 7, 1993.

Playing for the Eagles

Reid played in nine games during his first year in the NFL, in 1993. He made three tackles that season. In 1994, he played in three more games for the Eagles. The team released him on July 21, 1995. After that, he no longer played professional football.
