Michael Rodgers (born April 24, 1985) is an American professional track and field sprinter. He is known for his speed in the 100 m and 60 m races. Mike won a gold medal in the 4 × 100 meter relay at the World Championships in Doha in 2019. He also became the Pan American Games Champion in the 100 meters in 2019.

Mike Rodgers' Sprinting Journey

Mike Rodgers grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He went to Berkeley High School. There, he was a talented athlete, running track and playing basketball.

College and Early Success

After high school, Mike attended Lindenwood University and Oklahoma Baptist University. He was an amazing college athlete. Between 2005 and 2007, he won 10 national championships. These were part of the NAIA. He even set a record in the NAIA Indoor 60 meter race. His record time was 6.65 seconds.

Becoming a Professional Sprinter

In 2008, Mike became the US Indoor Champion in the 60 meters. He then placed fourth at the World Indoor Championships. This showed he was one of the best sprinters in the world.

In 2009, Mike started to run even faster. He improved his personal best times in the 100 and 200 meter races. At a meet in Brazil, he ran the 100 meters in 10.01 seconds. He also ran the 200 meters in 20.24 seconds. Later that year, he ran the 100 meters in 9.94 seconds. This was his first time running under 10 seconds! This is a big achievement for sprinters.

Mike won the US Championships in 2009. This win helped him qualify for his first World Championships in Athletics. He made it to the semi-finals in the 100 meters at the 2009 World Championships.

Winning Medals on the World Stage

In 2010, Mike earned his first global medal. He won a silver medal in the 60 meters at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships. His time was 6.53 seconds.

He continued to improve his speed. In 2011, he ran his fastest 100 meters ever. He finished the race in an incredible 9.85 seconds. This happened at the Prefontaine Classic.

In 2011, Mike faced a temporary ban from competing. This was due to a rule violation. He was not able to participate in the 2011 World Championships in Athletics. After a 9-month ban, he was able to compete again in 2012.
