College Basketball Journey
Mikey Williams played college basketball before turning professional. In his final year at Cal State Fullerton, he had his best college game. He scored 29 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in a game against UCSB Gauchos.
Starting a Professional Career
After college, Mikey Williams was not chosen in the 2014 NBA draft. However, he still began his professional basketball journey.
Playing in the NBA G League
From 2014 to 2016, Williams played for the Sioux Falls Skyforce. This team is part of the NBA G League, which is like a development league for the NBA. He then played for the Canton Charge from 2016 to 2017.
Playing Overseas and in the Philippines
Williams also played basketball in other countries. He was a "heritage import" for the Saigon Heat in the ASEAN Basketball League from 2017 to 2018. An import player is someone from a different country.
Later, he joined the GenSan Warriors in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League from 2018 to 2019. During his time there, he played very well. On average, he scored about 15.9 points, made 6.6 assists, grabbed 5.1 rebounds, and had 1.1 steals per game.
Time with TNT Tropang Giga
Mikey Williams joined the PBA and played for the TNT Tropang Giga. He quickly made a name for himself.
In Game 3 of the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup finals, Williams set a new PBA finals record. He made 10 three-pointers in one game against the Magnolia Hotshots.
Williams later signed a new three-year contract with TNT. However, he missed many games during the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup season. In November 2023, TNT decided that Williams would no longer play for their team. Even so, TNT still holds his rights, which means he cannot easily join another PBA team without their permission.
