Early Life
Mikhail Vasilyevich Ignatyev was born on January 8, 1962. He studied at two different universities. He graduated from Chuvash State University. He also attended the Volga-Vyatka Academy of Public Administration.
Political Career
Mikhail Ignatyev started his political career in the government of Chuvashia. From 1996 to 1999, he worked as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food. This role involved helping manage farming and food supplies for the region.
In 2002, he became the First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers. This was a very important position in the regional government. Later, in 2004, he was promoted to Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Becoming Head of Chuvashia

In 2010, Mikhail Ignatyev was chosen to become the President of the Chuvash Republic. The Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, suggested him for the role. The local parliament, called the State Council, then voted to approve him. Most of the deputies voted in favor. He officially started his new job on August 29, 2010.
On January 1, 2012, his official title changed. Instead of "President," he became known as the "Head of Chuvashia." In 2015, President Vladimir Putin appointed him as the acting head. Later that year, on September 13, he was elected by the people for a second term. He won with a large number of votes.
Why He Was Dismissed
Mikhail Ignatyev's time as Head of Chuvashia ended in early 2020. This happened after some events that caused public concern.
On January 18, 2020, during a speech, he made comments about journalists. These comments were seen as critical and caused controversy. A few days later, on January 23, another incident occurred. During a ceremony, he was seen making an emergency worker jump for keys. This action was widely criticized as being disrespectful.
Because of these events, his political party, United Russia, removed him on January 28. The next day, on January 29, President Putin officially dismissed him from his position. Oleg Nikolayev was then appointed as the new acting head of the Chuvash Republic.
Later Life and Passing
After his dismissal, Mikhail Ignatyev took legal action. On May 20, 2020, he filed a lawsuit against President Putin. He argued that his dismissal was not fair. The Supreme Court of Russia accepted his lawsuit. Hearings for the case were scheduled to begin on June 30.
However, Mikhail Ignatyev became ill before the hearings could start. On May 27, he was hospitalized with a serious lung condition. On June 18, 2020, he passed away in a hospital in Saint Petersburg. His death was caused by heart failure after he contracted COVID-19 during the global pandemic.
