Miles Black (born April 13, 1966) is a talented Canadian jazz pianist. He is also a musician and producer who plays many instruments, including piano, guitar, saxophone, and double bass.
Growing Up with Music
Miles Black grew up surrounded by music because his father was a guitarist. Musicians often visited their home, and they would have "jam sessions" – where they played music together without much planning. Miles wanted to play music with his dad.
When he was 11, he started learning classical piano. Just three years later, at 14, he was already performing for audiences! By the time he was 18, Miles had tried many different musical roles. He played bass, guitar, and saxophone. He also sang, wrote music for movies, helped people with music therapy, and directed music for a theater company.
Miles' Musical Journey
In 1987, Miles Black moved to Vancouver, Canada. He taught piano at Capilano College from 1990 to 1996. In 1996, he toured all across Canada with his own music group.
Miles has played piano and keyboards for many different projects. He has worked on musical theater shows and recorded music for television and movies. He has also written over 350 songs with a singer named Glenda Rae. Miles has been part of several bands, including Skywalk and Altered Laws, where he played with saxophonist Tom Keenlyside.
Miles has also worked with many other famous musicians, such as Maynard Ferguson, Paul Horn, Max Roach, and Shari Ulrich.
