Milledgeville is a small village located in Carroll County, Illinois, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,026 people lived there. It's a quiet community with a history tied to an old mill.

A Look Back: Milledgeville's History

Milledgeville started because of a gristmill built in 1834. A gristmill is a place where grain is ground into flour. The town actually got its name from this mill!

In 1866, the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad built tracks through the area. This brought more people and goods to Milledgeville. The village officially became a village in 1886. The original mill was taken down in 1908. The number of people living in Milledgeville was highest in the 1960s. Since then, the population has slowly gone down.

Learning in Milledgeville: Schools and Education

The village of Milledgeville and the nearby countryside share a school system with Chadwick. This system is called the Chadwick-Milledgeville Community Unit District #399. Students from kindergarten to 12th grade go to school in the Milledgeville building. Younger children in Pre-K attend the Chadwick school building.
