After playing for São Paulo, Milton played for many different clubs around the world. These included teams like Estudiantes Tecos in Mexico, Nacional Montevideo in Uruguay, and Internacional in Brazil. He also played in Japan for teams like Yomiuri FC and Kashima Antlers.

In May 1993, Milton Cruz joined the Oklahoma City Slickers in the United States. He was their top goal scorer that season. After this, he retired from playing football at the age of 36.

He continued to work as an assistant coach there until 2016. During this long period, he was asked to be the interim manager nine more times! This shows how much the club trusted him.

Later, in 2017, Milton Cruz got his first chance to be a main coach for Náutico. He then coached Figueirense and Sport Recife. In 2019, he left Sport Recife.

In 2021, Milton Cruz returned to São Paulo again. He first worked as a technical consultant, giving advice to the team. Later, he became an assistant to the famous coach Rogério Ceni.
