Milton da Cruz, born on August 1, 1957, is a Brazilian football coach and a former player. He used to play as a forward, which is a player whose main job is to score goals. Today, he works as an assistant manager for the famous Brazilian club São Paulo.
Milton Cruz has a very strong connection with São Paulo. He played for them when he was young and later worked there as a coach for many years. He even stepped in as the main coach several times when the team needed him.

Early Years and Many Teams
Milton was known as Milton when he played football. He started his journey at São Paulo's youth academy in 1975. By 1977, he was good enough to join the club's main team.
After playing for São Paulo, Milton played for many different clubs around the world. These included teams like Estudiantes Tecos in Mexico, Nacional Montevideo in Uruguay, and Internacional in Brazil. He also played in Japan for teams like Yomiuri FC and Kashima Antlers.
In May 1993, Milton Cruz joined the Oklahoma City Slickers in the United States. He was their top goal scorer that season. After this, he retired from playing football at the age of 36.
Olympic Dream
Milton Cruz also had the chance to represent his country, Brazil. He played for the Brazil under-23 team at the 1984 Summer Olympics in the United States. He played in three matches during this big event.
Coaching Career: Back to São Paulo
From Assistant to Head Coach
In 1997, Milton Cruz returned to his first club, São Paulo, but this time as an assistant manager. An assistant manager helps the main coach with training and strategy. In 1999, he became the interim manager for a short time when the main coach left.
In 2002, Milton left São Paulo to work as an assistant coach for Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. However, he came back to São Paulo the very next year. He continued to work as an assistant coach there until 2016. During this long period, he was asked to be the interim manager nine more times! This shows how much the club trusted him.
Later, in 2017, Milton Cruz got his first chance to be a main coach for Náutico. He then coached Figueirense and Sport Recife. In 2019, he left Sport Recife.
In 2021, Milton Cruz returned to São Paulo again. He first worked as a technical consultant, giving advice to the team. Later, he became an assistant to the famous coach Rogério Ceni.
Achievements and Trophies
Milton Cruz has achieved some great things in his football career:
- As a player, he won a silver medal with the Brazil Olympic team at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
- As a coach, he helped Figueirense win the Campeonato Catarinense in 2018.
